Air Cdr Dr. B Jayan and Col Dr. Abhijeet Kadu delved into the depths of "Dental Sleep Medicine" with a workshop beginning with diagnosis and cephalometric analysis and ending with fabrication of appliances for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.
Air Cdr Dr Balakrishnan Jayan, a graduate of Government Dental College, was commissioned in Army Dental Corps in April 1991. He did his MDS in Orthodontics from the Armed Forces Medical College; Pune in 1998 and is the first dental professional in India to be awarded Hon. Fellowship in Sleep Medicine by the Indian Sleep disorders society. He has completed a fellowship program in Clinical Research and has done a Senior Defence Management course from College of Defence Management, Secunderabad. He has many accolades to his name- IOS research award (2009), Chief of Army Staff commendation (2007, ‘14), Vice Chief of Army Staff commendation (2007 & ‘08) and Army Commanders commendation (2000, ’08 & ‘11). He is a post graduate teacher of MUHS and Delhi University for Orthodontics. He has been associated with 12 Research projects, all pertaining to Upper airway and has numerous presentations in various National and International conferences. He has contributed to chapters in various popular International Orthodontic and sleep medicine books. Currently he holds the appointment of Commandant “Air Force Institute of Dental Sciences” and Dental Advisor (IAF).
Dr Abhijeet Kadu is a part of the Army Dental Corps as a graded specialist in Orthodontists and is currently posted in Jodhpur. He represented the Indian Army in the UN Peace keeping Mission in Lebanon. He completed his BDS in 2002 and MDS in Orthodontics from the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, both for which he secured the first rank in the university. He has publications in various national and international journals and is a post graduate teacher at Delhi University with special interest in Dental Sleep Medicine, Craniofacial Morphology and its connection to orthodontic problems, Cleft and Surgical Orthodontics
Dr Sukhdeep Singh eloquently conveyed the nuances of Practice management in his talk on the Dynamics of Dental practice.
Dr Sukhdeep Singh received his MDS in paediatric dentistry from Bapuji Dental College & Hospital in 1996. With an experience of more than twenty years and after having worked with various corporate hospitals like Columbia Asia- Bengaluru, Artemis- Gurgaon, Indraprastha Apollo & Max- New Delhi, he established the first independent, exclusively paediatric, dental practice in North India and nurtured it to success. He is currently the Professor & Head of Paediatric dentistry at School of Dental Sciences, Sharda University, New Delhi. He is a founder member of the first center for evidence-based dentistry in India and has numerous publications to his name, while also being a reviewer of scientific journals. In addition to being a practicing clinician and a teacher he has also worked as the head of professional services for 3M ESPE, India and was a pioneer dentist to work in the corporate world. He has conducted numerous workshops/guest lectures nationally and internationally. He has been a key opinion leader/consultant for 3M ESPE, GC India, Oral-B, Procter & Gamble India, JHS Svendgaard and Himalaya Drug Company.
Dr Achint Garg shared an abundance of knowledge on the enigmatic field of “Oro-facial Pain its identification and management. All three programs were thoroughly useful and enjoyed by all those present. Prof Dr Achint Garg, after his Bachelors in Dental Surgery, pursued his Masters in Oral medicine and Radiology at the Eastman Dental Institute for Oral Healthcare sciences, University College London and FDSRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons, London. He is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, USA and completed his PhD from Griffith University, Australia. He is currently the Professor and Head Oral Medicine and Radiology Manav Rachna Dental College. He is also a senior consultant in Head and Neck Oncology at Max Hospitals New Delhi and Oral Cdx, India.
